What do you charge for service?
We charge a diagnostic fee to assign time for you to have a technician diagnose the issue, and then parts and additional labor are an additional charge. We include minor repairs like a single wire or minor cleaning in the diagnostic fee. If significant troubleshooting, cleaning, and repair work is needed to address multiple issues, there will be a charge in addition to the diagnostic fee. We will not do any work or replace any parts without your prior approval. As part of this process, we will assess how well your equipment is maintained and give you an approximate lifespan of the equipment, and make recommendations for immediate care and future planning. Note: Maintaining your equipment at least annually, and changing your filters monthly, will greatly reduce the cost of repairs and increase the lifespan of your equipment.
What’s the difference between Amana, Rheem, Goodman, Trane, and other brands?
The difference between brands is the same as with any other product - construction, use of technology, warranties, materials, efficiencies. You can make choices based on features and benefits that are important to you. What will make one of the biggest differences in how happy you are with your system and the installation, is which contractor you choose to install the equipment. Our expert technicians will answer all of your questions, and ensure that your equipment is properly installed for safety, optimal operation, fulfillment of the warranty requirements, and the consistent comfort it provides for your home.
Why should I consider a maintenance agreement?
When you maintain your home, you reduce the overall cost of use over the life of the home, which includes your heating and cooling system. It seems simple to replace your filters once a month, and have your furnace and a/c checked once a year, and it is. But life gets in the way, filters get clogged, and your furnace and a/c suffer, along with the air quality at your home or business. You pay more for utilities and you increase the chance that you'll need a major repair, or worse, have a safety issue. When you sign up for a maintenance agreement, you lower the chance that you'll have to deal with any hassles, or require emergency service in the dead of winter or the blasting heat of summer. You don't have to think about it! We'll call you with reminders and to schedule service, you'll save money versus a one-off appointment, and if you need any repairs, you'll save 15%, even on humidifier pads, etc. Consider this "done-for-you" service a no-brainer. Do you offer a guarantee?

If you are taking time off to have a new furnace installed, take a full day. Installation can take approximately 4-10 hours, and will depend on many factors. If you need ductwork installation or modification, for example, it will take longer. Or, if any equipment needs to be relocated, that will increase the time of the installation. Installation of a full system will typically take a full day or more. Your installation team will keep you posted - just ask!
How often should I change my furnace filter?
You should at least check your filter once per month. Many guidelines will say every 1, 3, 6 months - frequency should increase if you have pets or people in your home or business with allergies. Changing your filter more frequently increases the efficiency of your furnace because the air can flow through freely, and the system doesn’t have to work so hard.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
If you are looking at an estimate for a repair, and it's over a third of the cost to replace the furnace and your furnace is 15 years old, for example, replace the furnace. Or, if the repair is over half the cost to replace, get a new furnace.
Six other factors that could let you know it will soon be time for a new furnace:

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
Your furnace could be blowing cold air for a few reasons.
Try these suggestions. If they don’t help, you can call Climate Control Systems at 815.806.1055.
Your thermostat is set to ON rather than AUTO. Change the thermostat setting to AUTO.
Your furnace has overheated. This could be from a clogged air filter. Change the filter.
Your flame sensor is dirty. You can clean it yourself if you are familiar, or call a professional technician to clean it for you.
If you have an older furnace, your pilot light could be out. If you are comfortable relighting it, follow your manufacturer’s instructions and relight it. Or, call a professional technician.

Do I really need to maintain my furnace annually?
Any maintenance, whether for your health, your car, or your home, is not mandatory, but always a good idea. It’s best to hire a professional if you aren’t confident with the maintenance of your furnace.

How do I get a heat certification?

Why does my furnace turn on a few times and then shut off for a while?
If your furnace tries to turn on a few times and then shuts off for a while, it might be a dirty flame sensor. If the flame sensor doesn’t detect a flame, it shuts off the furnace and gas valve as a safety measure so that gas isn’t flowing into your home. If the sensor is dirty, it can’t detect the flame and will shut off the furnace. Clean the flame sensor if you feel comfortable doing so, or call 815.806.1055 to schedule a service appointment.
Why won’t my furnace keep up when it’s cold outside?
Try changing your filter. The furnace may be getting too hot inside because there is not enough airflow. When it overheats, the high limit switch will shut it off. And, some switches have a lockout feature, where, if it overheats a few times, it will shut the furnace off for a few hours.
Why do I smell a burnt electrical smell?
Try changing your filter first. But a burning electrical smell could be the sign of a bad blower motor. In that case, you may need to replace the blower motor and capacitor. If you are comfortable, replace these things on your own or call us for service at 815.806.1055.
Why is the fan slow to start and then quits on my furnace?

Why won’t the fan on my furnace turn off no matter what I do?
It could be a bad control board. You can troubleshoot a bad control board, or you can call us for service at 815.806.1055.
How long does it take to install a central air conditioner?

Why isn’t my AC blowing cold air? What can I do?
Check and change your air filter. Dirty filters prevent adequate air flow. Check your condenser outside - it may need to be cleaned. This should be done annually. Check your thermostat settings. If these efforts don’t solve the problem, call or text us at 815.806.1055. Call for more immediate service.
How long does a centralized air conditioner last?
An air conditioner is currently expected to last 10-15 years, but could last longer if you maintain in properly. We can answer any questions about maintenance. Consider joining our Comfort Club to save money, time, and have your maintenance records up to date for your warranty.
Is it necessary to have my AC serviced every year?
Service your systems at least once a year, depending on what type you have. Whether home or business, schedule a consultation for us to set up a custom maintenance plan based on the size of your system, age, and budget. This will shorten your to-do list and save you money. Even if you aren’t having any problems, service will prevent major breakdowns and increase efficiency. Not properly maintaining your system will lead to gradual breakdown, energy loss, and increase in energy costs.
Do you add refrigerant to my AC unit? How much does R22 cost?
Yes, we do. We’ll charge you a diagnostic fee to send a technician to your house to determine if you need refrigerant and how much you need. R22 is the refrigerant that is no longer manufactured, so it’s price will only go up.
How do I know my air conditioner needs a repair?
Some signs you may need a repair are: it's blowing warm air, you aren't getting much airflow, no air, you have odors, your thermostat doesn't match the temperature in your home or office, you see moisture or leaking, and the system is making weird noises. Should I install a ductless air conditioner?
If you are in the market for a new air conditioner, building a new home, or adding on an addition to your home, a ductless air conditioner could be a good option. They are more efficient than a traditional system with ducts. They are more expensive upfront, but they are 30 percent more efficient than a traditional system. Maintenance includes monthly cleaning of filters, and annually having a technician check refrigerant pressure and flush condensate lines. All maintenance must be done to prevent costly repairs, just like with a traditional system.

How do I reduce allergens in my home?
Warm and humid spaces are breeding grounds for dust mites and mold. Maintain temperature between 68 F and 72 F and keep relative humidity no higher than 50 percent. Clean or replace filters in central heating and cooling systems at least once a month. If you have questions about other options, notice you've been sick alot, or have allergies, call us with any questions. We can offer system enhancements and additional suggestions to improve your indoor air quality.
How can I improve my indoor air quality?
Here are a few suggestions: limit sources of moisture, declutter, reduce chemicals in candles, personal care products, and cleansers, store paint out of your living area in a well-ventilated space. Consider the addition of whole house ionic air cleaners and UV lamps.
What does a UV light do?
UV lights are great for people with allergies. They control mold and bacteria, reduce colds and flus, reduce odors, and remove VOCs. To make sure your UV light is properly installed and maintained, (change the bulb annually with maintenance of the system) you can call us at 815.806.1055.
What should my humidifier/indoor humidity be set to?
Indoor humidity in the winter of 40-50% is ideal, unless it’s making your windows have condensation. Thirty-five to 50% is considered to be the most comfortable, saving you energy because your thermostat can be lower. If you don’t have a whole house humidifier, we can help you choose the right one, for the size of your space, and if you want to increase or decrease moisture levels in specific rooms.
What's the difference between a whole house humidifier and the humidifier you have in an individual room?
We have both in our houses. The whole house humidifier is connected to your HVAC system and easily and efficiently maintains humidity throughout your home, protecting wood floors, and improving the quality of your air. If someone is sick or suffers from allergies, bust out that room humidifier.
Do you install smart thermostats?
Yes, we do. We offer the Ecobee 3 and 4, the 4 being a voice-enabled Alexa device. Both have sensors for consistent temperatures from room to room, and both you can control settings from your phone while away from your home or office. Both can save you money on utilities with pre-programmed settings we can help you set up upon installation. We can also help you obtain rebates from ComEd lowering the cost of both thermostats by $100, costing $69 and $149, respectively. Ecobee 4 has been rated the best premium smart thermostat.
