Hickory Creek Middle School
Opened in 2001, Hickory Creek Middle School is a public middle school located in Frankfort, Illinois. The school is part of the Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 and serves grades 6-8.
Hickory Creek Middle School offers a comprehensive academic program, including honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The school also offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including music, theatre, and athletics. In addition, the school has a strong focus on character education and community service.
Hickory Creek Middle School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and a Gold Medal School by the U.S. News & World Report. The school has also been named a Reward School by the Illinois State Board of Education.
The current principal is Tom Mogan. The school's mascot is an eagle, and its colors are blue and gold. Hickory Creek Middle School has a student population of approximately 1000 students in the 7th and 8th grades.
Hickory Creek Middle School provides resources to enhance the educational experience of its community members, including: but not limited to an on-campus planetarium, greenhouse, multi-purpose room for special events, renovated library media center with technology lab, weight room, 19 science labs, athletic facility fully equipped with locker/shower rooms for both home teams and visitors across from main field house that includes offices for coaches as well as health classrooms where Physical Education & Health classes are taught.
Warren Township residents may choose between two local high schools, Lincoln-Way Central High School and Lincoln-Way West High School.
Both of these schools have been ranked as excellent by the U.S. News & World Report, and both have received Blue Ribbon Awards from the Department of Education. In addition, students in grades 10–12 from districts 210, 211, and 219 may attend any one of these three high schools with a tuition cost to the sending districts based on average daily attendance.
Students zoned to Lincoln-Way West HS have access to a wider array of AP Courses than most other school districts in Illinois. This is due to several local high schools, including Lincoln-Way West, Lincoln-Way North (Bolingbrook), and Benet Academy (Lisle).
The school day at Hickory Creek Middle School begins at 7:55 AM and ends at 2:47 PM. The students are offered elective courses that include art, business, music, physical education, technology education, family & consumer science. Students may also choose to take additional courses through the Co-operative program, which allows them to gain credits by studying working in a field of interest over time.
The school also has special education programs for students with mild or moderate learning disabilities. These students receive help in areas such as writing skills and reading comprehension. For more severe disabilities, specialized classrooms provide an adapted curriculum of instruction tailored to each student's needs.
Graduation requirements for students who attend Hickory Creek Middle School include 26 credits in grades 6-8 and 28 credits in grades 9-12.
